Portrait perfect practice

One area of photography that I am severely lacking practice in is portraiture. Unlike with nature photography you need a willing victim, one that is patient and self-assured, to pose in front of the camera. Once you have such a volunteer you spring and don’t let them go until the both of you are exhausted. čÖé This photo session lasted an entire afternoon and we tried out different lighting (natural and artificial), different cameras and I even spent a good amount of time in front of the camera, which is something I think every photographer should do. Once you get get to know with how it feels to be the model, you can better understand and work with your subject to create better experiences. Better photos then come naturally.
I think it is important to note that none of these images were photoshopped. I simply dislike how over the top such images look. They were converted to monochrome and some global brightness adjustments were applied.
Lastly, my thanks go out to Kathrin, who kindly played model for me and allowed me to use her photographs of me for this post.

    1. Thank you very much J├╝rgen and Jenny!

The pictures turn out much more natural when you don’t feel like you have to pose for the camera. Kathrin and I had a lot of fun playing around during this photo shoot and I think that it shows.

I am really glad that you like them! I have some more for the next blog post, so be sure to take a look on Sunday čÖé
