Be calmed

… by the motion of water, not seen in an instant, but rather a much longer time and compressed so that minor fluctuations are smoothed over. It is the long-term view.

Liquids are the topic of the photography challenge for this week, which is lucky for me, as it means I can continue working through the images I took on the shores of Lake Maggiore some weeks ago. On my first morning out I was a bit tardy and didn’t manage to have my camera set up before the sun had well and truly risen. By the time I had taken this shot the colours had mostly disappeared from the morning sky, so making it a perfect candidate for monochrome conversion. My original intention was to go with a high key presentation, with water and sky fading to almost white and have the shore, boats and mountains etched onto this surface. In the end I went with something much darker and placed the emphasis on the mid-greys. What do you think of the end result?

    1. Thank you for the lovely words, Carol!
It was indeed a hot and dry spell down in Ticino and the cool of sunrise was a welcome change to the heat of the afternoon sun.
