The photography challenge for this week has a very interesting topic, that being ‘twisted’. It was far from obvious for me what I should post to this theme, but after a day of thinking and searching my Lightroom catalogue I have come up with the following. Please enjoy and let me know what you think about my interpretation of twisted.

My first subject is the climbing kiwi in the garden outside our home. One evening, after noticing how nicely it was being backlit by the evening sun, I grabbed my camera and headed downstairs to see what I could capture. To me, the second motif, with the tendrils twisted around the fence pole, is the more obvious one and speaks to the strength of nature and life. The first image was a little more difficult to find and compose and getting the camera settings just right was also a trick, but I really like the way in came out. The sun peaking through the gap left by the vine twisting over on itself adds a really nice atmosphere to the image.

The next image was spotted on one of my evening walks through the local forest. The low hanging sun is projecting the shadow of a bare and twisted branch onto a stone. The result very much reminds me of cave paintings and the mysticism of yore.

The following image was also taken in the forest during one of my walks, but on a far more grey and overcast day. It is a photo of a tree root twisted on itself and is a part of a long-term project of mine. Look out for a post on this topic soon!

The final image for this post shows that humans can also build twisted structures, which in this case is a spiral staircase at my workplace. I still get self-conscious when I take photos in ordinary day-to-day, non-touristy locations, so I waited until most everyone had gone home for the day to take my shots. I really like the composition that I found here and I think I will have to try this shot again under stronger, more directional light.

Die Fotografie Herausforderung für diese Woche hat ein sehr spannendes Thema, das heisst ‘verdreht’ (twisted). Es war gar nicht offensichtlich für mich, was ich zu diesem Thema eintragen soll, aber nach dem ich einen Tag darüber nachgedacht habe und durch meinen Lightroom Katalog durchgeschaut habe, habe ich den folgenden Post zusammenstellen können. Bitte geniesse es und sag mir deine Meinung zu meiner Interpretation des Themas ‘verdreht’.

Mein erstes Motiv ist die Kiwipflanze, die im Garten vor dem Haus wächst. An einem Abend, als ich nach Hause gekommen bin, habe ich bemerkt, wie schön die Szene unter dem Abendsonnenschein aussah. Ich ging dann schnell die Kamera holen gegangen und kehrte zurück, zu sehen, was ich einfangen könnte. Für mich ist das zweite Motiv, mit den Ranken um den Metallstab des Zauns verdreht, das Offensichtlichere und zeigt die Kraft der Natur und des Lebens. Das erste Bild war schwieriger zu finden und zu gestalten und die richtigen Kameraeinstellungen zu finden war auch nicht so ganz einfach, aber ich mag es sehr, wie das Bild herausgekommen ist. Die Sonne, die durch die Lücke späht, die die Rebe hinterlässt, verleiht dem Bild eine wirklich schöne Atmosphäre.

Das nächste Bild habe ich an einen meiner Abendspaziergänge durch den Wald gemacht. Die tiefhängende Sonne projiziert den Schatten eines verdrehten Astes auf einem Stein am Waldboden. Das Ergebnis erinnert mich sehr an Höhlenmalereien und Mystik der Vorzeit.

Das folgende Bild wurde auch während einer meiner Waldspaziergänge gemacht, aber dieses Mal an einem bedeckten und sehr grauen Tag. Das Bild zeigt eine Baumwurzel, die auf sich selbst verdreht ist. Es ist ein Teil eines Langzeitprojektes von mir und ich hoffe, dass ich bald mehr dazu posten kann.

Das letzten Bild des Eintrags zeigt, dass auch Menschen verdrehte Strukturen bauen können. In diesem Fall ist das Motiv eine Wendeltreppe an meinem Arbeitsplatz. Ich werde immer noch unsicher, wenn ich Bilder in ganz normalen, nicht touristischen Orten mache und deswegen wartete ich bis fast alle nach Hause gegangen sind, bevor ich das und weitere Bilder gemacht habe. Ich mag die Bildgestaltung hier sehr und möchte das Bild noch einmal in stärkeren und direkteren Licht versuchen.
