Closing the loop

The last two lake stops on our five (four) lake hike were the Grünsee and Mosjesee. Though it is a bit of a stretch to call them ‘stops’, the afternoon was wearing on and we had to keep the pace up in order to make it back to Zermatt before nightfall. So the tripod stayed hanging from my rucksack and I barely stopped to catch my breath before taking these photos and getting back underway. The lake pictured below is the Mosjesee with its beautiful turquoise water. It is a very picturesque location, though the buildings on the far shore and dam gave it a very man-made atmosphere. Again, in this series of images it is the Matterhorn and the larch trees that play the starring roles. Increasing the colour temperature led to a more romantic feeling, though perhaps I went a little far with it. Oh well, it’s always good to test the boundaries. 😉
So, to sum up, we can definitely recommend the five lake hike in Zermatt. It’s a lovely round trip with breathtaking views, especially in the Autumn, when the trees are at their most beautiful.

  1. Oh I say, this is gorgeous! The photograph labelled main_image_3 is my personal favourite. The yellowness of the trees adds this lovely warm and earthy feeling like you say, and having the Matterhorn off to the side rounds off the satisfaction one derives from the scene. Well done!

    1. Thanks Ian! It was definitely quite the view from the mountainside and I can certainly recommend going on the five lake hike if you are planning on taking a trip to Zermatt.
The yellows of the larch were amazing, but quite difficult to capture photographically. In the end I went with my artistic interpretation rather than trying to directly recreate reality and I am also quite chuffed with the result. 🙂
