I’ve gotten into a bit of a habit of trying to choose the exact focal length that provides a close crop of the motif I am attempting to capture. When I am out travelling I don’t often take many lenses with me and this means that I then have to choose out motifs that match the lenses I have with me, or shoot wider and crop in during post-processing. What I often forget is the possibility to stich several images together into a panorama, due to this ‘fit everything into a single image’ mindset that I often have when out and about. Luckily, between all of the stress of trying to get the shot and simultaneously attempting to be in the moment and enjoying the beautiful sunrise over Lake Maggiore, I managed to remember that panoramas are a thing and fired off three shots to obtain the image below. The beauty of the scene under the low-hanging sun meant that a colour version of the image was a must, but in my opinion the black and white conversion works just as well and could perhaps become my favourite with time.

Es ist eine Angewohnheit von mir beim Fotografieren, die genaue Brennweite auszusuchen, die zum Motiv am besten passt. Allerdings versuche ich auf Reisen nicht so viele Objektive mitzunehmen, was heisst, dass ich entweder passende Motive für die Brennweite aussuche, oder eine noch grössere Brennweite verwende. Im Nachgang passe ich den Bildausschnitt am Rechner an. Was ich meistens vergesse, ist die Möglichkeit Panoramabilder von mehreren Bildern zu erstellen, weil ich genau diese ‘alles muss ins Bild reinpassen’ Denkweise habe, während ich fotografiere. Glücklicherweise, zwischen dem ganzen Stress eine gute Aufnahme zu finden und gleichzeitig im hier und jetzt zu sein und den schönen Sonnenaufgang zu geniessen, habe ich mich daran erinnert, das Panoramaaufnahmen eine Möglichkeit sind und habe drei Aufnahmen gemacht und das Bild unten davon zusammengefügt. Die Schönheit der Szene unter der tiefhängenden Sonne veranlasste mich, dass ich unbedingt eine farbige Version des Fotos bearbeiten wollte. Aber meiner Meinung nach ist die Schwarz-Weiss Umwandlung genau so gut und wird vielleicht mit der Zeit meine Lieblingsversion werden.
